Benefits of uniting divisions ( multi-faceted practice )

There are many Arts from around the globe and the differences at first glance are obvious...The clothing, philosophies, movements and intentions of practice are in fact very different in many ways. Meditation, Dance, Yoga, Martial Arts, Multi-fit, Qigong, Internal Arts, and Movement, even have differences of style within each of these modalities.... Mind Body Movement Arts wishes to focus on a second glance of these Arts. We wish to bring forth the extraordinary similarities so that practitioners from any style can benefit from bridging the gaps and uniting what is common.

The benefits of practicing any single Mind-Body-Movement-Art is a life changing experience to say the least. The Art generally challenges the participant to push past mental barriers, to find the strands of self that need to be refined, and help form a healthy, mentally fit, and spiritually sound person. The benefits of the Art certainly do not come from a lack of self-discipline, or without a continuous dedicated study and training. Honestly, what form of greatness has ever come about by being, lazy, unmotivated, or having a head full of excuses?

These Arts whether they are steeped in a long history of culture and tradition, or are modern interpretations of functions that were found to be unique and condensed into a new style, are both equally united in their benefits.... Sure, some Arts focus more on the mind, some more on the body, and perhaps others more on our spiritual self....One thing remains true for us, is that focusing on one aspect of training, without the other, generally leads to a very unbalanced practice....Finding ones-self by joining these 3 aspects into our practice and our lives will bring about change on a very deep and profound level..A change that can and should be felt in every facet of our lives.

It is very similar conceptually that these Arts require a study of our human body, how can we move it, what are its limitations, what can it become capable of ? We can probably agree that an un-focused mind, and negative mental chatter, can often lead to a random and haphazard approach to how we move our body and also shape our lives. It is also known and widely accepted that if mind and body are disconnected that our true sense of self, our Chi, Prana, or Spirit, Energy, Source, whatever you choose to call it, is never really fully understood or felt in a way that leads to the benefits we wish to attain….

Mind Body Movements Arts true goal and purpose of uniting the divides is to teach and present information to our participants so they can unite these 3 key aspects of personal transformation. In doing so we make the Artist emerge, allowing the Art to be fully expressed and understood. We demystify the overly esoteric and bring forth that which can be attained ……Gaining the ability to fully express ourselves in these Arts unlocks the door to a realm of new and previously misunderstood possibilities...Join us in our mission:

Mindfulness....Life and Death

We just recently returned from a trip to New Jersey to visit friends and family. The visit was filled with great times, a wedding, and visits with friends that we haven't seen in quite some time. We were able to eat food from "back home" and spend moments engulfed in the present without the busyness and hurry that life sometimes brings. These moments were enjoyed together as a family. Perhaps the greatest moment spent together was least expected……A funeral.

Most of us often neglect looking at death as a part of life... It is often an aspect of life that we wish to avoid for as long as humanly possible. We also may at times wish that when it comes we are not in pain and that we were able to do all that we wished to accomplish. Unfortunately, most of us live our lives in neglect of our death, we neglect the precious moments, we neglect our relationships, we neglect what we love, and hide from all that is painful, embracing only that which is pleasurable. We make excuses, justifications, and rationalizations to excuse that which we know we should do.... Our bodies and minds are left as second hand living, not something that we see as the core of our life…!

Many traditions, religions and cultures speak of death and promise an afterlife in many forms. Heaven, Hell, Re-incarnation, etc. In essence death can represent many things, but to the living it’s a wakeup call, what will we choose to do with our only promised one way ride on this planet? Good question right?

Mindfulness is the key to this re-birth. When we realize our limits we begin to see the limitations we have been accepting in our lives. We can see clearly the obstacles ahead of us and prepare ourselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually for whatever is to come. Mindfulness helps us to live more fully and be better in our day to day lives…. Many martial traditions and religious philosophies openly prepared for death. Contemplating upon the fact that we will one day be dead physically can help us find new motivation to train, live and love with vigor and passion and create new lives for ourselves.

Life and death, just like yin and yang are concepts that explain a complete cycle from beginning to end. Why have we been making excuses to wait one more day? Why wait until next year? Why wait until we are too sick to understand our minds and bodies? Now is the time to act, waiting will only bring more of the same, are we happy with that? Death comes quickly and life is too short when we arrive at the final moments of our existence… The beginning starts now are you ready?

What is style ?

Regardless of what Art form we practice often the word style comes up in conversation. What is style really, let’s dig in a bit and see if we cant figure it out, ready? ……….

We can all agree that Style is generally an individual, or group of individuals, who create or have created their own philosophy of how they want to see "their" Art expressed. Style also seems to be centered around the culture that it was created, often containing costume, dress, and religious significance of that culture. Style creates right and wrong methods and "state, this works and that does not"… We can also generally agree that wearing a ballet outfit to a martial arts class would be stylistically inappropriate, but why? Especially with a tutu ….Ok, enough joking......

We at M.B.M.A love the differences each style represents, but in reality, most styles segregate themselves from each other, a little too often…. Dance and Yoga are totally different in most of our perceptions, but are they really that different?

We have begun to successfully join the methods of Martial Arts, Yoga, Dance, Meditation, Multi-fit, Movement, Internal Arts, and Qi Gong, as siblings of each other. The end goal of each of these Arts is to embody a philosophy with both our mind and body in order to reap the benefits the Art promises! We also wish to be able to portray the Art in a way that is suitable by it's creators. The structure that the human form must take on for the magic, beauty, or power delivery to manifest, are they really that different?  The intentions may be different, but the anatomical positions are very much the same….

We believe that all Art forms, and the practices that have been created by their founders, are concerned similarly with the following structures, and mind/body connections: Balance, Mindfulness, Strength, Mobility, Coordination, Posture, Agility, and Balance. Shouldn’t these benefits that the practitioner can achieve through diligent study and practice unite the Arts to each other? Sure certain aspects are more important than others dependent on style, but in the end they unite to each other, more than they seem to separate .

We at Mind Body Movement Arts want to re-create the word style and the perception people have towards it! We want to set practitioners, and ourselves, free from style so we can embrace the freedom that is available to us. We do this by studying the common core structure/s that allows us to become our own stylist… We honor the cultures, philosophies and heritage of various styles from across the globe by bringing in the highest level teachers we can possibly find. We then dissect these teachings into non-esoteric versions of what it means to become an Artist with our own curriculum/s, and We provide you with the tools so that you can do the same.

Eight gated training method

By training the modalities and philosophies of the inner circle of the diagram the categories of the outer circle become the benefits of practice...Regardless of your current practice we at M.B.M.A.located in Sedona, Arizona specialize exclusively in training the structure... When someone becomes a student of structure there is no form of excercise or modality of mind-body union, that cannot be understood and perfected with time ! Training and studying the structure saves practitioners alot of time, and helps get them to the heart of the Art without getting caught in the esoteric realm.

How do we define these topics :

Yoga: A Hindu philosophy advocating and prescribing a course of physical and mental disciplines for attaining liberation from the material world and union of the self with the Ultimate principle.
Meditation: A standing or seated practice of continued or extended thought; reflection and contemplation.
Multifit- A system of exercise that challenges the body and mind in very dynamic ways through excercises , drills and sequences with and without weights and or resistance
Internal Arts: A philosophy and practice of using spirit, energy and intention to manifest internal strength, health and vitality.
Movement: An art that practices full range of motion using primarily bodyweight, in slow systematic sequences allowing for useable, full range of motion, and stability.
Qigong: A Chinese system of breathing exercises, body postures and mental concentration, intended to maintain good health, and to develop and utilize, vital internal energy.
Martial Arts: A wide range of systematic teachings and movements designed for self-defense. These teachings encompass the training of structure, efficient delivery of power, and methods to strengthen the body with the goal to gain competence in defense with both empty hands and also the use of weapons.
Dance: A successive group of rhythmical steps or bodily motions associated with following a musical beat or rhythm.

Mindfulness: The state or quality of being mindful or aware
Strength: The quality or state of being strong; both bodily and muscularly; having power and vigor.
Mobility: The quality or state of being capable to move in dynamic ways readily
Coordination: Harmonious combinations of interactions inside and outside the entire body
Agility: The power of moving quickly and easily, and the ability to be nimble
Posture: Proper positioning of the limbs and carriage of the body as a whole, allowing the mind and body to be in it’s perfect state of homeostasis
Flexibility: The state of being soft and limber allowing the small musculature, tendons, and ligaments to become more supple and functional
Balance: A state of equilibrium of both mind and body

Why do we do this?

For most of us training can be a love, hate, relationship. Why do we go to the gym, the studio, to remote outdoor locations, spend money and time traveling to learn what we do? Why do we wake up early, stay up late doing what we do ? Why do we continuously seek insights, devour YouTube videos, and literature to understand our Art, and practice on the deepest level possible?

The answers to these questions can vary from person to person. Personally training has become a lifestyle. I like to explore my body, it's anatomy, and my mind, and find daily what I am capable of. I like to find the common core structures and teachings in all of the Arts I study. I push myself to train in as many different facets of the diamond in relation to mind and body as possible. I do this because I have fallen in love with the Arts and know first-hand how continual practice makes me feel, and ultimately become! I hav decided to have a relationship with my mind and body !

Training is a word that can be defined much like the word work. If we love our job is it really work? If we love to train is it really training? We must become as scientists. Our training, and where we choose to train, must become our laboratory!

We are one, we are strong, we are dedicated to bringing ourselves to the next level, there is no need to cheat ourselves! IF you already have the tools, then keep honing them. If you are looking for more and or, are searching for more answers, Let Mind Body Movement Arts show you our vision, so you can create your own!  We have taken concepts from the World’s top Mind Body Movement Modalities, and combined them under one roof! We base our embodiment practices upon methodologies of the eight gated integral fitness system (our own system) ... We initiate and show you, and ourselves daily what it means to become an Artist, not just how to practice an Art/ system or style!  Become united, Join us in our mission www.mindbodymovementarts.com

Overly conceptual or practical ?

Alot of us are seekers, am I right? We want to be healthier, we want to eat better, live better and overcome obstacles and limitations of both our minds and bodies..We actively practice or wish to have a deep meanigngful practice. We want to set goals and have a path designed for us to be able to accomplish what we dream ...Are you still with me ? Ok, good.... GREAT !

We have been drawn to these Arts because we seek, what is it we seek ? Is it to continuously become better, more vibrant and healthy in both mind and body. I feel we have come to study, grow and develop ourselves because we wish to be whole, complete, and centered, we love the Arts and the ability to express ourselves within them, we want to learn.

Alot of us have gotten lost in the esoteric realm through these Arts and have lost the key to the door presented to us through the Art....The hocus pocus of meditation and qi gong, the "woooooh" factor of martial arts, the strong physiques of those of us who lift weights and cross train, the peace and clarity of those who are mindful, The great flexibility of those who practice yoga and pilates, the agility speed and mobility of dancers, gymnasts etc....What is the difference between each of these practices ? Why choose one over the other ? Are we lost in a specialized nature of choosing this over that? Why ?

We have to remember constantly why we came to these Arts, as being overly conceptual tends to creep in on all of us at times. " Why am I doing this ? "....So many ways to Meditate, so many ways to do Qi Gong, which martial art, what type of yoga, which sacred dance, cross fit, or movement culture modality should we study, and why? So many questions.....Are you feeling me ? Why not study the root to all of them........ you , your body and mind....Be a scientist, and let your mind and body become the laboratory !

Mind Body Movement Arts wishes to unwravel overly esoteric jargon and concepts that confuse people with their airy language. We wish to demistify these arts and bring what is practical, functional and that which can manifest real change in all of it;s participants... We honor the traditions, cultures, mythologies, and esoteric stories and teachings of various Art forms, however we make the teachings useable so that they can be understood by all of our participants and students from any and all backgrounds they have come from...

We have gotten lost the same way, what is strength, what is flexibility, what is coordination, balance, mindfulness, posture, agility, and health... Alot to think about........Isn't it ? Do all of these Arts teach us to become these things clearly ? Isn't that the purpose of all of these Arts, the purpose of why we study so hard, or desire to start studying? I mean, Why be strong physically but weak mentally ? Why be flexible but not agile ? Why meditate and have a calm mind but at the same time have a weak body? Why be able to dance and be coordinated, but not have full range of mobility?

We at M.B.M.A are changing the face of what these words mean, by presenting traditional teachings, blended with our understanding and study of various Art forms in a clear and easy way to learn... If you are a student of mind body union, a strong person ready to kick it up a nothch, and are ready to cut through the esoteric hooplah of what is mindful movement, you have come to the right place !
