Regardless of what Art form we practice often the word style comes up in conversation. What is style really, let’s dig in a bit and see if we cant figure it out, ready? ……….
We can all agree that Style is generally an individual, or group of individuals, who create or have created their own philosophy of how they want to see "their" Art expressed. Style also seems to be centered around the culture that it was created, often containing costume, dress, and religious significance of that culture. Style creates right and wrong methods and "state, this works and that does not"… We can also generally agree that wearing a ballet outfit to a martial arts class would be stylistically inappropriate, but why? Especially with a tutu ….Ok, enough joking......
We at M.B.M.A love the differences each style represents, but in reality, most styles segregate themselves from each other, a little too often…. Dance and Yoga are totally different in most of our perceptions, but are they really that different?
We have begun to successfully join the methods of Martial Arts, Yoga, Dance, Meditation, Multi-fit, Movement, Internal Arts, and Qi Gong, as siblings of each other. The end goal of each of these Arts is to embody a philosophy with both our mind and body in order to reap the benefits the Art promises! We also wish to be able to portray the Art in a way that is suitable by it's creators. The structure that the human form must take on for the magic, beauty, or power delivery to manifest, are they really that different? The intentions may be different, but the anatomical positions are very much the same….
We believe that all Art forms, and the practices that have been created by their founders, are concerned similarly with the following structures, and mind/body connections: Balance, Mindfulness, Strength, Mobility, Coordination, Posture, Agility, and Balance. Shouldn’t these benefits that the practitioner can achieve through diligent study and practice unite the Arts to each other? Sure certain aspects are more important than others dependent on style, but in the end they unite to each other, more than they seem to separate .
We at Mind Body Movement Arts want to re-create the word style and the perception people have towards it! We want to set practitioners, and ourselves, free from style so we can embrace the freedom that is available to us. We do this by studying the common core structure/s that allows us to become our own stylist… We honor the cultures, philosophies and heritage of various styles from across the globe by bringing in the highest level teachers we can possibly find. We then dissect these teachings into non-esoteric versions of what it means to become an Artist with our own curriculum/s, and We provide you with the tools so that you can do the same.
